Benefits are admittedly in short supply for part-time faculty, at Columbia College and elsewhere, compared to those provided for full-time faculty and staff. This is one of the reasons we are "cost-effective" as contingent faculty. Health care and insurance, for example, are benefits P-fac has attempted to gain on many occasions, without success so far. (For a detailed discussion of this issue, see the Health Care Report under "Documents.")
The P-fac contract does provide benefits, outlined on the "P-fac Benefits" page, with links to contract provisions as appropriate.
IEA/NEA also provides a menu of benefits to members. While some (notably retirement) apply mostly to K-12 members, others pertinent to us are on the IEA/NEA Benefits page. Go to www.ieanea.org or www.neamb.com for further details.
The Spring 2009 issue of P-fac News also discusses benefits that apply to part-time faculty.(LINK)
